Worker reportedly working on emergency lighting conduit at the time
A worker has been fatally electrocuted at an AT&T facility in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
The incident was announced this week by Cambridge Police and the Middlesex District Attorney.
The incident occurred on the morning of November 7. At 8.30 am Cambridge Police responded to to a report that a male had been electrocuted.
Upon arrival, first responders located the 44-year-old Sturbridge man on the ground and began CPR before transporting him to Massachusetts General Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the man was a subcontractor at an AT&T facility, working on an emergency lighting conduit.
The incident occurred at 250 Bent Street in Middlesex County; an AT&T facility. Local publication CambridgeDay suggests the incident took place on the building’s second floor, in a data center.
“We are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of this contractor’s employee, and our thoughts are with this person’s family, friends and colleagues,” AT&T said in a statement. “We’re working closely with investigators and the contractor to determine what happened here.”
Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan and Cambridge Police Commissioner Christine Elow have confirmed there is an ongoing investigation into the incident by the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office, Cambridge Police, and the Massachusetts State Police Detective Unit assigned to the District Attorney’s Office.
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) will also conduct an investigation.
